Dining at Kyoten is an unforgettable experience that truly stands out in Chicago’s dining scene.
Renowned for its exclusivity and premium price point—ranging from $440 on weekdays to $490 on weekends—Kyoten offers a single dinner service each evening. This approach creates an unhurried, intimate atmosphere where every detail is thoughtfully curated.
Otto, the chef, is committed to sourcing only wild fish, a dedication that elevates the dining experience. Both the otsumami and the nigiri courses were phenomenal, with a perfect balance of textures and tastes.
Starting with the otsumami, my favorites were the monkfish liver—easily the best I’ve had, super creamy and subtle—and the perfectly fried lobster tempura.
And now, on to the nigiri… All of them were excellent, but the standouts were the wild yellowtail, the akami, and the black throat sea perch. The flan-style tamago was also a delicious surprise.
