Nowhere outside of Japan does omakase like NYC, and nowhere in NYC does it quite like Yoshino. Alongside Sushi Sho (which has a no-photo policy), it stands as my favorite omakase experience in the city—and beyond.
Tucked away in NoHo, Yoshino is the brainchild of Chef Tadashi Yoshida, a highly respected sushi master in Tokyo’s sushi scene. In recent years, many top sushi chefs have sought to make their mark in NYC, and Chef Yoshida is no exception. In 2021, he open Yoshino in the city, bringing his expertise and artistry to one of the most competitive omakase landscapes in the world.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere exudes refined simplicity, complemented by impeccable service. Each course unfolds with precision, building in complexity and depth. The Otsumami seamlessly integrate elements of Western techniques while maintaining a delicate balance of flavors, ensuring nothing overpowers the purity of the ingredients. The nigiri course is a testament to Chef Yoshida’s mastery—each piece meticulously crafted, showcasing the highest quality fish and perfectly seasoned shari.

Now, onto the experience itself. The meal starts with the Otsumami or appetizers. For this specific visit, this is what we had:
